Oyster Bay Roaring 20’s Party

Arabella Caribbean's own Gossip ColumnistOK. So recovery is not all that it’s cracked up to be.

Oyster Bay St Maarten PartyIngrid Bosnie’s Roaring 20’s party Friday night at Oyster Bay Resort was everything and more than promised.

Fabulous mix of people with the Prime Minister Mrs. Sarah Wescott Williams leading the flappers. Yet again, Ingrid pulled out all the stops. The hotel entrance and lobby area were designed around the low-light, smoky, sultry atmosphere of a speakeasy bar during prohibition.

Resort guests were obviously informed well in advance to pack accordingly and so they did. Partygoers passionately embraced the styles of the period and strutted their looks in an obvious attempt to out do each other. I spied more than one passing resemblance to Coco Chanel, Al Capone and Bugsy Siegel.

The flappers donned dresses with loose silouhettes, dropped waists, tassles, sequins, long pearl necklaces, cloche hats, head bands and feather boas.

The gangsters followed suit if you’ll forgive the pun. Fedoras, Trillby hats and even a Homberg or two combined with zoot suits and spats were the order of the evening.

Even the kids who were allowed to attend the first part of the celebration arrived suitably attired in sailor suits and dresses with anklets and Mary Janes.

Once past the gauntlet of paparazzi, champagne flowed freely allowing a comfortable 2 hours before dinner to mix and mingle with all and sundry and warm up to the sounds of C.J. Johnson and her gangsters Franky and the Sunshine band. More usually known as Cutie, she and her ragtime band brought the house down with her eclectic mix of jazz and blues classics wrapped around her own compositions.

Guests took center stage to showcase their moves to the melodies of Duke Ellington, Al Jolson, Irving Berlin and Fanny Brice. The Charleston and The Lindy Hop very much in evidence all evening.

The night wrapped up at a relatively decent hour or maybe that’s a little too subjective! Suffice it to say it was time to go home. I still have to thank Ingrid for yet another fabulously entertaining and hugely successful evening and the months of painstaking work that she and her team put into the planning.

I’m thinking a dinner at Canoa Restaurant might be that thank you.

Maybe next Monday.

See you there!
