How to choose the best St. Maarten hotels to ensure your best vacation.
What’s the difference to ‘St Martin’ hotels?
Accommodation on St Maarten is varied due to the layout, geography and topology of the land and the fact that there are two distinct different sides to the island.
St Martin, the French side, is more serene and rustic, whilst the Dutch side, St Maarten, is more built up and commercial.
You can stay in a budget guest house, a resort, hotel or a 5-star villa complete with it’s own entourage of chefs, maids and butlers with an infinity pool overlooking the ocean!
There are currently around 3,000 rooms and with no affiliation to any of them, we can tell you the inside scoop on what’s good, what’s average and what’s exceptional in your desired style of accommodation
want to camp out in the wilderness on your own private beach? We can tell you how to do it.
Hotel, Guest House, Timeshare Resort, 5-star villa or camping in the wilderness? Take your pick. Rates will vary depending on the time of year – there is ‘season’ time and ‘off-season’ time. Season is generally November thru March and ‘off-season’ April thru October, with ‘peak’ season being the prime weeks of end of December/ early January during the holidays where rooms are rare and prices high.
Personally, I think we’re moving away from ‘off-season’ to ‘summer’ season – it is different but certainly not ‘off’!
There are still a large number of tourists visit the island during those months and the weather can be spectacular – contrary to popular belief, hurricanes are not that frequent here and when they do hit we are well prepared due to past experiences, such as Hurricane Luis in ’95 and Lenny in ’98, and hurricanes, out of all the natural disasters are probably the easiest to prepare for.
In fact ,us islanders usually buy up goodies from the supermarket, get a few videos and beers and have a hurricane party with friends!
If you’re not used to hurricanes and want to know how to handle one and stay safe if you’re here when it strikes – or what to do in terms of insurance or, god forbid, emergency evacuation back to your country, then we have some sound advice and expert insight within the pages of our comprehensive and well-written e-book – take a look here for more info.
Timeshare/ Fractional ownership, in case you haven’t heard of them, have been very popular cost-effective ways of ensuring a vacation place for a certain period of time each year for many years into the future (as much as 99 years in some cases!) and are a great option for those who have already fallen in love with St. Maarten and have decided they will come every year.
Having said that, you are not necessarily obliged to take your week in SXM – many t’share owners swap their ‘points’ for use at other destinations – or likewise come here for the first time having gone to, say, the Bahamas for the last 10 years but decide to switch for future to St. Maarten.
Your vacation doesn’t end by booking a flight & hotel. How about some time savings tips, money saving information and lot’s of discounts to make your vacation just smoother and better? All this and more is in our comprehensive guide ready for instant download.
Just a quick note – the French side does not have Timeshare or fractional reserve but does have some excellent boutique hotels and beachfront accommodation both in Orient Bay and Grand Case.
