THIS is the World’s scariest and shortest runway!
Forget about the ’10 most dangerous airport’s in the world’ – this one on the tiny island of Saba near St Maarten has to be seen to be believed!
Crowds flock to St Maarten to watch the planes land over the famous Maho beach, but few of them know about the secret of Saba just 10 minutes fling time to the south of St Maarten.
Landing and taking off from the volcanic rock of Saba is a thrill ride in itself.

Drone Captures Steve Jobs Yacht Venus Squeezing Through Bridge in St Maarten
Amazing unique aerial footage above Steve Jobs luxury yacht ‘Venus’ exiting the narrow channel in St Maarten to go out to sea.
‘Venus’ has been in St Maarten for around 2 weeks for a scheduled stop and Saturday set sail on a private charter to an unknown destination, but first it had to navigate through the infamous ‘Simpson Bay bridge’ which is the entry and exit to one of the Caribbean’s largest sheltered lagoons.
Watch here as drone captures Steve Jobs yacht Venus as it narrowly avoids scraping against the side of the bridge opening…..

Best Things To Do In St Maarten
Great article from US News about the best things to do in St Maarten – St Martin along with world rankings under various categories.
We would, in our humble opinion, agree with some but not all of the things on their list – it’s obvious to us they haven’t got an ‘insider’s’ edge like we have and have missed a few not-so-obvious attractions like particular restaurants or the many scenic and secret photo spots and beautiful lookouts that you won’t find in any online guide or website – EXCEPT perhaps our own insider’s guide – St Maarten Island Guide.
DID YOU KNOW?
St Maarten is ranked….
#2 in ‘Best Winter Vacations’
#3 in ‘Best Caribbean Honeymoons’
#5 in ‘Best Caribbean Vacations’
#5 in ‘Best Islands in the World’
US News Travel Section has a survey of all the islands ranked in ‘Best’ categories where you too can vote for the island you love the most or you think should NOT be on the list – check it out HERE.
Best St Maarten – St Martin Restaurants
Known as the culinary capital of the Caribbean, St Maarten – St Martin has a lot to offer by way of world-class dining experiences.
The best St Maarten – St Martin restaurants also regularly make the lists of many international journals and magazines including Caribbean Journal, Conde Naste and Travelers amongst others.
We are SO LUCKY to have not only sampled the best St Maarten – St Martin restaurants but also MANY of the restaurants on the latest published list of the 50 Best Caribbean Restaurants from ‘Caribbean Journal’ and in our humble opinion St Maarten – St Martin has more than it’s fair share of excellent international class dining experiences.
This is not just about the food, but also the ambiance, service, mood, music, view and service……..and as the French would say that ‘je ne sais quoi’ – the indescribable ‘I don’t know what’ that can only be experienced and fails to be relayed adequately in the written or orally descriptive word.
Great to see that 3 of the best St Maarten – St Martin restaurants made the list!:
When you are next in St Martin and want a really great evening ambience with lively music, people and an authentically French-Caribbean ambiance you can’t do any better than ‘The Village’ – ‘Le Village’ at Orient Bay.

Chic sophistication on St Martin’s most popular beach
A personal favorite of ours, Palm Beach at Orient Bay is at once relaxing, chic, sophisticated and ‘cool’!
If you want to get away from the noise and people pollution of the ‘Big Five’ restaurants or ‘Lo-lo’s’ of Orient beach on the Eastern end, then get yourself over to the western end!
Although ‘Waikiki’ restaurant is one of the more popular hang outs on Orient Bay, it’s a little too pretentious and unnecessarily pricey for our tastes – it’s a socialites favorite and a place to ‘see and be seen’ much akin to Nikki Beach (and Waikiki is definitely trying to fashion it’s own brand based on Nikki’s worldwide success!).
Take all of the great food Waikiki has, lower the prices, turn the volume down, get rid of the table dancers and space out the sun chairs and then you have Palm Beach.
WARNING: If you go to Palm Beach on Sunday be prepared to meet half of St Martin! It’s their spot on a Sunday especially……
Tip: Don’t turn off on the usual entrance to Orient Bay – it’s the one by the Cisco gas station and Paintball.
